Yesterday, Mom and I watched all day long as our new President and Vice President were inaugurated. And for us, as we believe for many, what a beautiful and extraordinary day it was. We are very thankful for yesterday, we are thankful for today and the days that lie ahead. For us, the words spoken by all were full of hope and promise, the words began to close the door on too many days that had turned into weeks, months and years of lies, anger and hatred.
A dear and good friend, had once reminded Mom that January is named for Janus, the god of beginnings in Roman mythology. The god who represented doorways, openings ~ whose face could both reflect on the past while looking toward the future.
Yesterday we welcomed a good man and a good woman as our leaders, supported by thousands of others. We are thankful for all of them and pray for God to bless them each and every day as they fight to right the wrongs that have come into our lives, as they fight to overcome injustice that has befallen far too many. And each of us has a responsibility to fight with them. As we do so, do not forget the past while working for a better future. Our new president said, "to heal, we must remember." The door has opened, it is the choice of each to walk through.
may janus bring us a good beginning...
ReplyDeleteWe watched too and we exactly the same way that you do.
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray that this will be a good beginning for your country (and by association, the world). I watched the inauguration, only the second one I've ever watched (the first was Obama's initial win). The young poet was amazing, and even I, as a Canadian, was deeply moved during parts of the ceremony. No doubt in sheer relief at the change in your administration!
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute June but you look a bit surprised! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteI agree ~ New President and inauguration was great ~ so refreshing ~ despite all the precautions ~

It was a beautiful ceremony and I loved each ceremony after as well. I didn't miss the formal inauguration balls at all, the celebration in the evening was so joyful and had regular folks as well as entertainment of every sort - I hope that continues going forward. Overall, I went to bed feeling relaxed, happy and safe for the first time in a very long time.
ReplyDeleteNice post June. I hope we all have a brighter future. XO
ReplyDeleteYour cat is so beautiful. Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteyou know I'm not into "polly tix" as we say here in TT, and did not watch
ReplyDeleteanything from yesterday { still sneaking around at work } but I did catch
the poem "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman...and I was blown away. This
young lady has an AMAZING God given talent; and regardless of the career path
she chooses; I pray she never gives up writing ~~~~~~~~~ ♥♥
June you look beautiful! Our mom cried during the inauguration. We're hoping for a brighter future for the country :)
ReplyDeleteWe are looking to the future too
ReplyDeleteJuney, I had the TV on, and I watched over the edge of my monitor!
ReplyDeleteI called my mother after the swearing in stuff; she was feeling optimistic too!
The pandemic has kept me away from visiting her; she's 88 years old, and we need to keep her as safe as possible, until we can all get our shots. So, I call her often.
We love new beginnings. And your last paragraph says it all.
ReplyDeleteHope Mom is doing well.
Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Amen.
ReplyDeleteDon't believe anything a politician says.
ReplyDeleteWe certainly hope that better days are on the way.
ReplyDeleteWe are thankful for you June and your Mom! We LOVE coming to your blog and seeing you and we LOVE all the extra work your Mom does for the Blogosphere! We love seeing her headers and badges and especially for the Rainbow Bridge!
ReplyDeleteWe are thankful that you guys have a better president. We are thankful that our Governor General has resigned (she is the Queen's representative in Canada and part of our ). She has been "difficult". And we are wishing you a marvellously Happy Day!
We need lots of good now and always.
ReplyDeleteThe past, good or bad must always be remembered to avoid the same mistakes being allowed to happen again. The future looks much brighter.
