Today, Zoolatry is featuring one of our special grand dogs ~ Dougie Dog ~ who was the star of this blog for many years! We truly miss this wonderful boy, but he lives happily with his family, and his special boy. I've chosen to feature Dougie Dog, because though he thankfully does not suffer from epilepsy, he has had more than a few seizures and I have seen first-hand how terrible and debilitating these can be. But I can barely begin to imagine the suffering and trauma that our canine friends go through, along with their pet parents, when they are afflicted with this condition. And of course, epilepsy strikes our human family and friends as well. Today, for some it can be controlled through medications, but research goes on and support is still needed for the fight against this disease.
FIVESIBES lost their beautiful and amazing Siberian huskie, Gibson to epilepsy and they continue to support and fight the fight. Today, there is a special blog hop, the 6th Annual PURPLE DAY Epilepsy Blog & Social Media Hop. Add your blog LINK today to support this worthwhile cause. Thank you.
a purple hug to all today and we hope that we once have a treatment..
ReplyDeletewe have never had a dog with epilepsy but our dog Max had two horrible seizures and i was hysterical. it is the most horrid thing to feel so helpless. as bad as it was with Max, i can't imagine seeing a child have one.
ReplyDeleteMom had a new friend in 7th grade who had a seizure going into the lunchroom one fall day. She actually died from it. That image is etched in her mind forever. She also had a dog who had a seizure, survived and was fine, but it scared her to death. It is a horrible thing for a pet to go through and for a human to have to watch.
ReplyDeleteG'morning Ann and June I hope all slept well.
ReplyDeletePurple is such a beautiful color and I have it posted today too
Hugs Cecilia
We pray for all who suffer from this awful disease. We know how scary seizures are.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Mackey will be joining the bloghop today. She has seizures caused by brain damage suffered when her mom had distemer while pregnant. Bad breeding and careless breeding can cause lifelong suffering for the puppies.
ReplyDeleteA huge purple hug to all in need.
ReplyDeleteHave a purrfect day and weekend. ♥
Mom's grandfather has epilepsy. We miss you, Dougie, and we hope you never have another seizure♥

ReplyDeleteA very special post that supports a great cause!
ReplyDeleteOh, we did not know that about Dougie Dog.
ReplyDeleteOur neighbors from years ago, had a springer spaniel and he had epilepsy, It was awful to see him have seizures, and more than once I had to call over there to let them know cause he was outside having one, and his peep were in the house...
Would that this scourge could be found a proper cure.
When GW and Dad owned their pharmacy, they had lots customers who got medications for epilepsy. The saddest part is that most of them were children in group homes. What a terrible disease it is!
ReplyDeleteI did not know that about Dougie. That is a very handsome picture of him.
ReplyDeleteA very important case for the blogging community to embrace.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful dog who was gone too soon. Thank you for bringing attention to this worthy cause.
