THE WALKER and THE CANE

I have a new toy!  Pretty isn't it?  Actually I have another new toy, but it's not in this picture.  It's called a cane and it's bright red.

Mine Mommy, who turned into one of "the walking dead" people the other day is using these toys more than me, and I'm trying to steer clear of her as it's obvious she doesn't know the rules of the road and isn't an accomplished "driver".

(and I read somewhere that old ladies and canes can be dangerous)

SO. She finishes lunch, goes to kitchen, SPLAT. Lays on floor screaming.  Foot and ankle underneath her. Trying to pick up broken china plate which I am walking toward as I notice those leftover bits of egg roll I'd very much like to try ... no June, you'll hurt your paws, away, away ... (screaming continues, so I do run away).  Tossing broken china into sink above her, wiping up sweet-sour sauce with her shirt which she took off.  Breathing heavily.  I have discerned something is wrong here.  Time passes, though I've not much concept of time except when it comes to eating and I'm now wondering if there might be any egg roll scraps in the kitchen sink.
Do I dare jump over her fallen, whimpering body to see?

NO. My best course of action, leave the scene, retreat to polka dot chair.  Watching with my big eyes I see my human twist and turn and struggle to rise as little mews escape her mouth, and I see that her left ankle is much larger than it was awhile ago. Very much larger and it is my favorite blue color now, too!

I am reflecting now and thinking well, it is good that it's her left foot, it is the only good one left ~ not a joke ~ as the other one, the right one, or the wrong one, is still not healed and swells up each day from when she fell a few weeks ago!  And on further reflection it occurs to me if she had four paws like me, instead of just two paws, she would still have two good ones.  Alas ...

SORRY, I DIGRESSED.  Good neighbor came to the rescue after she had risen, slid I-phone across table and called for help.
X-rays were done, sent off to doctor, no fractures, but doctor said "it is all very messy".  What?
"two falls, two bad feet? you will go see orthopedic to talk about this ..."

  3. Oh, boy! :-(

June, I'm so sorry your mom has fallen twice now and hope that something can be done to help whatever is wrong. Would your mom consider an "alert" bracelet (or pendant or whatever) of some sort? A lot of people seem to resist that, but it just seems practical to me. I'm glad she was able to call her neighbour for help.

I'm sending TONS of healing Light and hugs!!! ♥

We send our bestest POTP and hope that wih therapy and good kitty purrs your Mom will soon be feeling better and walking a lot better, too. Falls are dangerous things.
    Pawppy knows all too well.

He has a newer apple watch that detects falls and sends out automatic alerts if the wearer doesn't respond in a certain amount of time.

  28. June, we are so sorry. TW meant to send your mommy an email after she read me your comment on my blog but you know she's #senile. She was worried about your mommy and still is. Glad nothing is broken. TW broke her ankle about a decade ago and walked 2 blocks home on it. She wrapped it and iced it so good the next morning when she relented and went to ER they didn't think it was broke. It was. I admit I was terrified of the walker toy and the wheelchair that moved into the condo. Sending mucho healing purrz to your mommy.
