This antique dressing table sits in our foyer. When it was restored (about five layers of black paint covered it), we discovered it was made from many different kinds of wood. The gentleman refinishing the piece, lovingly took the time to restore each type of individual wood, the old hardware, and even the wooden casters. It became the favorite piece of the ZH. So she was definitely a little stressed when I recently decided it was a fine place for an afternoon nap. She was miffed when I would jump up there with my sharp claws and slide across the top, then scrunch around and around until I found the proper sleeping position. After a short time however, I happened to overhear her say, "you know, when I think further on this, my sweet Maggy is much more important and valuable than any old piece of furniture." I have to admit that I'm rather glad she feels that way...
We think Maggy is the PURRFECT accessory to that lovely table!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting spot for a nap! Nice to know your Mom has her priorities straight, we are certainly more important than the finest antique.

A cat napping on any piece of furniture instantly adds value!
ReplyDeleteMom is always saying things like that ~ usually accompanied by a big sigh. Tee hee.
ReplyDelete"Oh sure, and if it were me?" I'd be chased with the vacuum cleaner.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely it looks with you sleeping on it!

Oh my, what a beautiful piece and what a great job of refinishing and restoring. Maggy, you be very gentle with your claws, you do look lovely up there but treat it well.
ReplyDeleteWoos, the OP Pack
We think you laying there, Maggy, makes that piece of furniture even more beautiful!
ReplyDelete(pee ess. the dressing table really is beautiful!)
What a beautiful piece of furniture! Of course, it's the purrfect spot for beautiful Maggy to rest!
ReplyDeleteGlad your mom came around and realized that you are more important than the dresser. It is very pretty though so be careful not to put too many ouchies on the beautiful finish. I know your mom worked hard to make it pretty and get rid of all of that old paint.
ReplyDeleteWe don't know what is more beautiful. We think it's a tie.
ReplyDeleteMom cherishes each kitty scratch on her furniture.
A beautiful cat is the purrfect accessory!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree.. The furniture is lovely but to have a loving Maggie.. Just no contest. Maggie wins hands down... Hugs GJ x
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely piece of furniture to show off you gorgeous furs!
ReplyDeleteYou look purrfect there! We think the ZH is right!
ReplyDeleteSniffie and the Florida Furkids
It is indeed a beautiful piece of furniture and all the more dear for its history. However, Maggie is even more precious and indeed priceless. You certainly have your priorities in order.
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple suggestions for your furniture safety. Perhaps a crocheted doily which will soon attract the cat. We have tons of them because they're in every antique (flea market) shop here for mere pennies, or should you not like that idea a bottle of old english furniture polish. It does nothing to stop the scratches but does an amazing job at covering them up while keeping the beautiful finish.
ReplyDeleteYou look very lovely laying there, Maggy - you add immensely to the table's value!
ReplyDeleteBut we do agree that the table itself, even without you, is *gorgeous*!
Purrs and hugs,
The Kitty Krew
The dressing table is beautiful, but you show it off to purrfection Maggy.
ReplyDeleteYou are so very adorable Maggy!!!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
Dory

ReplyDeleteYou look so graceful on the dressing table, i'm glad you are allowed to sleep there. Furniture is to be used not just looked at.
ReplyDeletemaybe you could put some kind of protective cover on the top that's clear? we'll have to look into this. WE LOVE LOVE LOVE it, and feel as you do!
ReplyDeleteIt is a spectacular piece of furniture, sort of throne-like and purrrrrfect for the Magster! xxoo Patty & Bhu
