WE BELIEVE IN SANTA CLAUS!
I thank each and every one of you, from my heart of hearts, for your kind words and comments, your purrs and prayers, your support, and your generous and so very much appreciated contributions to help with our veterinary expenses.
Zoey will return to the vet next week, and again in a week following, to check on how she is healing. The doctor could only speculate on "how" or "what" may have happened ~ suggesting she may have gotten stuck somewhere in the house, struggled to get free and caused the gash in her side. (she has a habit of finding herself in the strangest places and predicaments!) Or perhaps while running about, hit the corner of something sharp (though having been room to room to room, we see no sharp corners or objects we think could have caused this). He believed it either happened Monday, or maybe on Tuesday. It was Tuesday evening that we first noticed her "ouchie oowie".
It wasn't until the vet shaved and cleaned the wound area that I realized how bad it was. On her right side, around to the tummy, is an inflamed area about the size of a human fist. At one end, was a deep gash about 4-inches long, with a loose and torn flap of skin and tissue. She was running a fever, and the wound area was infected, though the doctor does not believe the infection had spread beyond the wound site. Two options were offered, one being to anesthetize her, do a deep cleaning of the wound and then do stitches. The other was what the doctor called "second intervention" and this was the option he preferred. Because he felt it had begun some natural healing at the outer edges, he believed leaving it alone at this time was the best treatment and that it should heal on its own over the next week. We have her on two antibiotics, one local and one oral. He does not want us to have her groomed for probably about a month. So right now she has long fur on one side ~ is naked on the other! But no matter how she looks ~ she's adorable to us, and we are relieved to know she will be okay with care and time.
And yes, we do believe in Santa Claus.
He has without doubt, come early to the Zoolatry home.
He brought us gifts of caring and friendship from all of you.
We thank you.
Zoey thanks you . . .

Thanks for the update and we're sending purrs for a quick recovery. It's very easy for a cat to hide an abscess or wound under their fur. Four inches is huge. Poor baby. I'm forever inspecting as I massage, Reiki and brush our boys every day, since cat also are masters of hiding symptoms.
ReplyDeleteOh Zooey! Why do you kitties get your PURRsons so upset around this busy time of year? We are so glad that you are OK though. Moony had a couple days of throwing up- just to get our attention or the kitty flu or whatever... HOPE you will stay out of trouble... and that 2012 will be trouble free with you!!!
