No. That does not mean "bring your own bottle". For a cat, it might mean "bring your own box". But now it means "bring your own bag". Last January, here in Maryland, a new law was to go into effect where stores could no longer provide plastic bags. At the time however, the law was delayed (due to Covid) until October 1.
It applies to our grocery shopping (and any deliveries). To restaurants, for carry-out and all retail stores as well. This will be great for the environment! So ... Bring Your Own Bag ... oh, the store will provide paper bags, at 5 ¢ per bag ~ but responsible customers will BYOB. It may be that other states already have such regulations (I hope so) or will soon pass such laws (which would be wonderful). Do you BYOB?
When I came home from grocery shopping recently,
June, of course had to check out all the bags quickly tossed to the floor
and finally chose her favorite!
On Sunday, I had the great pleasure of visiting with Mark Spencer of MARK'S MEWS, the home of Marley, Ayla and Laz ~ not only to spend time with Mark (we had met some years ago) ~ but to be there as he welcomed the newest little family member, Lorelei Lee. What a fun day it was. Mark was great company, we spent hours in conversation ... it was also a beautiful autumn day and he was cooking (OMC, he is good at that for sure), preparing a pork roast and a whole chicken in the smoker on his back deck. But admittedly, the highlight was the arrival of his little Tonkinese lady, an itty-bitty blue-eyed girl, 13-weeks old full of love and energy and ready for her new home. One small photo below, but I don't want to steal-the-joy of sharing her away from Mark and the Mews ~ so visit the LINK to his blog, now and in the days ahead, to welcome "Lee", watch her grow, and enjoy her! Thank you!
Because of that threat, TBT has been saving plastic store bags for year in a big trash barrel. Where else would our poops go? But he is still getting more plastic bags from the Safteway and Wall-E Mart. And actually, here, they won't even touch your own cloth bags he says. You would have to pack everything yourselfs.
ReplyDeletewe always have our own bags in the car... the mama said 2 bags what are 0,25 here will cost something she urgently needs from the junkstore LOL
ReplyDeleteMom says our kitties used to love bags but they don't seem to anymore. They are both pretty old. They do enjoy jumping in a good box on occasion, though.
ReplyDeletei thought she would choose the brown bag lookalike, my friends cat was a paper bag freak.
ReplyDeleteAw, so cute. They love bags and boxes. It's good that you share the bags with her.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. ♥
Mom has been taking her own bags to the grocery store for over a year now. It did take getting used to in the beginning. What a great hiding place, Juney!
ReplyDeleteMom's been using reusable bags for years. We saw the post about you getting to meet sweet Lee!!!
ReplyDeleteI just put all my purchases into the shopping basket, take it to my car and unload the food etc into my car without any bags. Then I go home and unpack the car- easy peasy and NO BAGS at all!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little kitten!
ReplyDeleteThe peeps walk so they have a shopping cart which they load all the groceries in without using bags at all. TW is mixed about the no plastic bag law since as long as building complexes like our's require you to tie your trash in a plastic bag to throw it down the chute, people will need bags which will only benefit Glad and all those corporations making kitchen bags. Now when they do get store bags, they recycle them by using them as trash bags.
Gosh! We have had to pay for plastic bags for years up here in the Great White North. Alas, very few stores suppy paper as an alternative to plastic. We wish they did as we used to LOVE playing in the paper bags. You are so lucky to have a choice of bags and we KNOW you picked the best! We shall stop by Mark's and meet Lorelei Lee!
ReplyDeletehappee gotcha day two ewe lee; all de veree veree best two ewe for yeerz two come !! :) ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteWe don't have BYOB laws here yet although a lot of people used to bring their own. With Covid all that stopped, but Mom isn't sure if all is back to normal. She likes paper bags with handles too, just like that one you like. She likes to "double" bag her groceries to be sure the bag doesn't break when she picks it up:) And she recycles them too as she cuts them into rectangles to use on the floor of the bird cage.

That is so cool that you got to visit with Mark and meet his newest addition. I bet his other kitties were fun to meet too. XO
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful visit with Mark! We're already in love with Lorelei Lee.
ReplyDeleteOur plastic bag ban went into effect last year (in spite of Covid) and to be honest, I still gripe about it. I reuse plastic bags for trash and litter box clean up so I hoarded as many as I possibly could before the ban went into effect. Our paper bags are 10 cents, and I absolutely refuse to pay for something that has always been free, so I hoarded those too!
Way to go June, the bag was yours! It's super cool you got to welcome the new wee one home with Mark, Lorelei Lee really is a sweetie.
ReplyDeleteThose bags, I do a mi of using the store one because I need them for clean ups and the trash, and my own for some of the other stores. Paper bags are so much fun for kitties, the crinkle/rustle factor helps:)
ReplyDeleteSo nice of you to be there for Mr Mark when Lori came and you made some wonderful images for him.
Oh how neat that you got to be part of welcoming Lee to her new home. We have been visiting his blog as well as the cat blog and know he has waited a very long time for her.
ReplyDeleteI guess it is better for the environment. I don't know many cat parents that would like it.
ReplyDeleteLorelei Lee is so cute! We have reusable bags, and try to remember to take them (sometimes we forget). The fee is ten cent/bag here in Connecticut!
ReplyDeleteBefore Covid I had been using reusable bags for years. Then I started getting everything delivered in. One store doesn't use bags but delivers in crates which you unpack while they wait. The other store uses thick strong bags, but I re-use them for trash.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good selection of bags, June. Lorelei Lee is very pretty and it was nice that you could welcome her.
We are not allowed to BYOB because of Covid, but i hope that changes soon.
ReplyDeleteWe have been ordering online then drive to the store's designated space and picking up. You can't BYOB
