A CONVERSATION with JUNE on the the DAY after CHRISTMAS

Mommy, mine stocking is empty! Is Christmas all over?
Awww ~ yes it is, dear.
When does it come back again?
Awww, in like 365 days or so.
I can't count that many much high.
Well, the Christmas school break will be over soon, then you'll be back
to your lessons, so you'll learn to count higher and higher.
O.K., meow, but I don't think I will like waiting a long time.

Purr-ably not, my dear.  And speaking of waiting, I should tell you that
you and me are going to take a few days off from your bloggie here,
so I can play catch-up with some stuff and prepare for the New Year.

A new year, what's a new year?
Well, you'll learn about that in school, too.  For now though, come have some
nice soft brushies, maybe we can practice a little counting, or I'll read
you a story, or maybe we can just nap together.
But I have another question .... Yes, what?

Where are all the pretty cards that were up top on our header,
I really liked looking at them each day!
Well, you will get to see more of them, on Little Christmas!
Little Christmas?  Meow, I get more purrsents?

Oh no, Little Christmas is January 6 ~ also known as Twelfth Night,
and the Feast of the Epiphany.
It is celebrated around the world in many different ways.
How are we celebrating Little Christmas?
It is only in a small way, but you might like it June ~ we were saying
'thank you' to our friends with sharing their lovely cards on our header.

But then a big storm came all over the U.S. and the post
persons didn't get some into the mailboxes on time cause they
couldn't drive their trucks!  Oh dear!  And in far away places the post
people weren't working for other reasons, so ... we still want to say
'thank you' for those received since!  OK, I want to purr my thanks, too!
Well, then, how about you help me, put them all together
for a Little Christmas ~ Thank You on January 6.

I will, I will ... oh yes, I will.
Oh, Mommy ... yes? ... you can put my stocking away now,
for like that many days I can't count ~ I don't need any more purrsents,
I had a very good Christmas.
Awww, you're so sweet.

  1. Sweet June, waiting till next Christmas is hard for us humans too. And I think it's because once all the lights come down and all the presents get put away it gets rather boring for a while. But celebrating New Year's is another fun holiday as long as there aren't too many loud fireworks.

This sure is a happy time of year with all the celebrating going on!
Since it is cold outside, it's a good time for snuggling too!

  5. Getting pressies for Christmas is lots of fun but it wouldn't be so much fun and so special if it happened too often. Enjoy your time off, Juney!

  25. June, you are such a sweetie-pie. You aren't spoiled despite having lotsa presents. You accept the fact that it's a whole year until Christmas comes around again, and you're grateful for what you have. There's lots of little ones who could learn a lesson or two from you. Hugs to you and Mom.

  26. Mark's Mews: Dear June, you can celebrate all holidays in yer heart all year long... But it will get colder, then hot, and then cold again. That's when the Christmas will return. It will be a while!

But that's what makes holidays special. They don't happen every day or even every Big Moon. They have a Day when they occur.

There are other Special Days. You have a Birfday and a Gotcha Day to look forward. And yer Mom has her own Birfday. Your friends will have Birfdays and Gotcha Days, too, and you can celebrate those too.

And actally, ya have a Special Day every day, in a way. Yer Mom Ann gives ya attention. Food, shelter, love, all those things... Some cats don't have that. So we hope ya will think of evry day as "special". We sure do.

    Happiness to ya.
