THE LETTER M ~ MOM
I was always the welcome recipient of old family photos when offered by others who might be downsizing and ready to pass on to the next generation. I'd scour the secondhand and thrift stores for antique or old-looking frames for each and when I had a home, always found a place to display my collection. A time came when I handed these on to the next generation, but not before photographing and saving many in my computer files.
Here, a favorite of my Mom and Grandma ~ circa late 1914/early 1915, likely taken in Wichita Falls, Texas where they lived at the time. Photographs then were precious, formal portraits. This image remains special as my Mom is dressed in her baptismal gown, preserved by Grandma and worn by my own children 60-years later for their christenings.
to remember our pets loved and lost.
Thank you.
That is a beautiful and precious memory.

ReplyDeleteI haven't yet gone through the album Mom left me, though I had flipped through it while in Halifax. Some pics I already have, digitally, but most I don't. I don't know when I'll be ready to tackle that, but there's no rush.

We are old enough to have these elegant photos taken of our parents and grandparents. I have quite a few I brought home when my mother died 22 years ago. She was born in 1921. Your grandmother and mother look so beautiful on a very special day.

ReplyDeleteAnother lovely post. I can feel the love coming through your writing
ReplyDeleteHow special this really is! Your grandmother was a most beautiful woman, and your mother such a pretty baby. I'll bet she grew up to turn many heads as well.
ReplyDeleteI am the one in our family who got all the old portraits and other "things." I do cherish them, and display the pictures from time to time. That was so smart of you to take pictures of everything. It must be a "getting older thing," but sometimes I achingly miss my mother and grandma and aunt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful treasure to have! I have oodles of pictures like that too, some of the more precious ones are digitally preserved, I need to do the rest, too.
