ART or ARTIFICIAL

Today's image choice for SAM'S POETRY CORNER really hit home for me as I have strong feelings about the use of artificial intelligence for art and photography.  Yet I fully admit to using computer programs of all kinds, those that have been available for years ~ and that using these tools to alter photographs or to enhance art are in their own way "artificial".  But only to a degree if the original piece being altered or enhanced was a creation of the artist.  AI where one simply tells a computer "what" to create, by written or spoken words, seems to me just wrong.  I accept that AI may ultimately be somewhat beneficial in many fields, but believe it will be harmful in others and do not think it will, at least in my lifetime, replace or even add to the creative heart, soul and mind of a human.  (This is my opinion, and not meant as a reflection of those who do like to use AI programs which is their right to do.)

Our poem today takes the form of prose, and we are thankful for
AI not as Artificial Intelligence but as Artistic Inspiration.

Oils, acrylics, stretched canvas.
Watercolors, soft, texture.  Pastels.
Easels, palettes, brushes and turpentine.
India ink, pen points thick, thin.
Collages, montages, mixing media.
Images camera caught.  Split seconds in time.
The hearts, the souls, the minds,
the imagination of artists,
humans, living, breathing, feeling
humans.

  2. June, I had no idea you are a painter. waiting to see what you create... I see the dangers of AI and believe it will sometime in the near future become a problem. I do love to play with it, and consider it brain excercise by trying to figure out how to make it draw what I describe. my memory gets worse by the day and soon I will not remember what AI is or how to use the computer or cell phone. I fear that more than the AI of the future

  3. We are not fans of all the new AI stuff. Like you, we are creative and love to create. Maybe for those who dislike writing, or drawing, or photography it is something they can use, but we love the creative aspect of coming up with everything on our own. Not everyone is creative but that is alright, then just don't create. Love your poem!

  5. That's a great poem and we agree that AI can be very dangerous in some cases and will be a benefit in other ways.

  6. I 100% agree Artistic Inspiration...I don't mess with AI
I saw a news piece on ChatGPS ( I think that is the correct title). ANyone can put a few words into it automatically pops up with all kinds of information. This is especially troubling if used by students. They can have the thing write their papers.

  9. The human heart will always feel the need to create beauty and art for itself, I don't think we need to fear AI in that realm ... but in other areas AI makes me very nervous.

  10. I really understand where you are coming from. As a gal who loves crafting, graphic art, photography and writing...the only AI I play with is making cartoons of the girls(only because there is no decent filter have found that can do this).

  11. That is a wonderful bit of prose, and we totally agree with you about AI...we tried it a while back and felt rather disappointed. I like your concept of AI, Artistic Inspiration.

  12. Nothing can match human inspiration. I loved your poem. Artificial Intelligence is to Intelligence what artifical turf is to grass

  13. I agree with your thoughts on AI. It should help the human race - not replace it. Love your poem and sweet June!

  14. I've used photo editing programs to make my own decisions about how much to bring saturation, contrast, light,or shadows up or down in my photos, etc., But I do object to AI grabbing a background from around the web (whose?) on my sayso. So I agree with you about AI. It really worries me that bad actors will use it to imitate a writers style. Careful readers might be able to tell the difference, but I don't think everyone is careful.

  16. I think you captured the essence of that picture of all the art work. No AI can do that.

  17. Having spent a lot of my life in the techie world AI scares me. Your art is so much better and so much more creative and real. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  20. We love your poem, really captures the photo. Mom is worried about AI too. It has a lot of potential for some things, but it can also become very dangerous in the wrong hands.
