Once upon a time, little beagle Chessie lived with our family. They tell us she was here for more than 17 years. A little memory of her welcomes those who come to the front door. Christmas is a good time to remember those who once shared our days... and filled our lives.
They don't know I can get up on the plant ledges -- I only do it after everyone's gone to sleep. Last night I went up to get a good look at the tree. I was told it's a "memory tree", every year our mom and dad have been together, dad gets a little bear ornament. And now they've been together "like forever" so it's all covered with bears! (How come not cats?)

On their very first Christmas together they had a little tree, but couldn't afford to buy any ornaments. So mom took the little raggedy ann puppet from the baby's room and stuck it up on top and it's been there every year since!
Christmas is a time for remembering many things.
Treasure your own Christmas memories.
What a great tradition! My Daddy has bought my Mommy a kitty ornament every year they have been married (there are 10 of them now - they got a late start!)
ReplyDeleteYep mum tells us it's good to remember fings at Chris Mouse. We remember Kitty Yumbum cuz she wuz like a mother to us when we wuz babies.
ReplyDeleteWe haf got a little white bear on the top of our tree. It used to be a star, but one day when the tree fell over, (we wuz only looking at the dekkerayshuns, it happened all on it's own)the star broke, so mum put the bear up there, and he's gone there efurry year since.
That is a wonderful and special tradition your mom and dad have! :) Merry Christmas to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteMy little brother has arrived!
Dear Maggy and Zoey,
ReplyDeleteI love reading about your Christmas memories. The memory tree is wonderful (I love the Raggedy Ann puppet.)
Although I'm not sure that I'd like to live with one, I hear that Beagles are among the best of dogs to have ... I'm sure Chessie was a great friend!
Love--Mickey
That is so cool!! Christmas comes and goes ,but our memories last forever!!! Make them good memories!!

Mickey, Georgia & Tillie
What a fun tradition! Mommy thinks she and daddy should do something like that (a little late). I wonder why bears????
ReplyDeleteChessie must've been a wonderful woofie, and your beans wonderful people for her to have such a long happy life.
Big purrs and hugs to you all during this holiday season, and make all your memories happy ones.
Your memory tree is very special!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tradition. You are right, they should have thought to use cats but ah well! It is a lovely sentiment even with bears!
ReplyDeleteMom had a chihuahua and a pekingese before she got us. Mom had dogs for 42 years! Now she finds it easier to keep cats.
ReplyDeleteWe have a memory on our tree too. It is a bauble with Persia's name on it. She was very, very beautiful - she was Tigger's Siamese (and mom's personal cat).
- from Tigger the FBI cat.
P.S. Pyewacket is jumping up and down on the spot insisting I tell you it is her FIRST Christmas. (We know! We know!)
Yes, memories are wonderful things, and holidays always seems to bring them alive.
