During 2010, we had the privilege to design PAWS 2011, The Cat Blogosphere Calendar, featuring just over 400 cats and dogs. While a work in progress, Mark of "Mark's Mews" wrote to suggest a month be devoted to our Rainbow Friends, and he chose January, writing that January takes its name from "Janus".
He said, "in Roman mythology, Janus was the god of doorways, of beginnings and endings, of time." In January, as we opened a door to a new year, we also took time to look back, to reflect, to remember those who left their pawprints on our hearts. And so January 2011 was devoted to them ...
In the months and years since, I've been honored to create many images for our Rainbow Bridge friends. It is not always an easy task, but one I do with care and with love ~ as many of your pets, though I've never caressed them, each has been a part of my life as long as my own Maggy and Zoey have been with me.
So, today I thank you for entrusting me with that honor and that privilege. To alll who have crossed the bridge, may rainbows forever caress your shoulders.
We still have that calendar, and treasure it.
