THE GENTLE GIANTS

We saw a posting this morning at
that today is Manatee Appreciation Day.
Shame on us!  Being Floridians for 20-years, we should have known,
or remembered ~ tho did not ~ we always loved and enjoyed these gentle giants.
At one time our home was on the waters of Sykes Creek and they would drift past,
often sipping fresh water from a dripping hose off our dock.  What a joy to see!
To read more about them, visit Doggy and Kitty Caperz blog today.

  3. Manatees have always seemed so majestic to me. It must have been something special having them drift past your house in Florida.

  5. Those manatees are so graceful and HARMLESS... yet peeps are so CRUEL to them... Our mom and dad saw one swimming in a canal near Miami... with a GARDEN RAKE stuck in its Back.. It was heartbreaking.

  7. Manatees are awesome! It is sad how much they have been hurt by humans. I think this sculpture is a beautiful way to remind people to be conscious of these guys!

  11. Mom saw manatees at Sea World a few years ago. In spite of all the bad press Sea World gets for their orcas, they do amazing work rescuing injured manatees and rehabbing them. Thanks for linking us!!!
