It's been several weeks ~ or more ~ since placing our new thistle feeder in a small tree by the front window. Well away from the feeding stations in the back yard, where newcomers would not be bothered by the many house sparrows or others. We so wanted to attract the little finches, some chickadees and perhaps others, but it seemed not to be ... only the sparrows had discovered the new feeder.
But then, as they saying goes, "if you build it, they will come" ... and this past weekend, they arrived! Checking out the bird book, these are probably females or juveniles, in their winter coloring ... and they are tiny and adorable. These are, I believe (please correct me if I am wrong), American Finches. Welcome!
Look, see the itty bitty birdie in the blog hop badge, I think it's a finch!
Looks like some good Burd TV!

Those sweet little ones are enjoying an early Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWe do the same thing. Watch the birds feeding. We also have a fountain in our front yard where the birds come to get a drink and take a bath. We so love the birds. Huge Aw.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Awww Monday, Ann. Scritches to Dougie. ♥
Oh, don't you just love it when the finches finally arrive! Ours came just a few days ago, and the BirdTV is just that much better! Wonderful picture, thanks for sharing.

They look happy.
ReplyDeleteWe love gold finches and have a special thistle feeder for them. The holes are too small for the sparrows to get the seeds out. The ones in your picture have their winter color feathers on.
ReplyDeleteThose birdies are very pretty. Hope you see lots more in the days to come.
