THANKFUL and THOROUGHLY POETIC THURSDAY

Angel Sammy and his brother Teddy from TWO SPOILED CATS went across the pond this week and gave us this amusing photo for our poetry challenge.  It's a sight we suspect one often sees on any street in any city in Scotland.  As happens frequently, it stirred some thoughts of past generations in my own family, shared here as well.  We chose haiku and admittedly, it is a form usually a bit easier to write than rhyming poems!

Is he perhaps wearing a MacMillan plaid kilt?

We are thankful to know much, if never enough, of
our family history on both the maternal and paternal sides.
Grandma and Grandpa each had siblings by the "dozen" and we would
see most at annual family gatherings.
It has always been my regret that I did not ask many more questions
when I had the opportunity to do so.

Special purrs 'n' prayers today for dear Brian of Brian's Home Blog who is having some very important tests for his health issues.

Our long time and very good friend Jacqueline of Jacqueline's Cat House has said farewell to her beloved Halle.  Once upon a time five beautiful kitties shared their lives and love here together, now there is just one and it is heartbreaking.  Choose kindness today, visit Jacqueline with words of comfort on this sudden loss.  Thank you.

  9. What a fun photo and poem! I was able to locate my maternal family tartan online. Because we were a small clan we were aligned with the MacDonald clan and therefore wore that tartan. So many stories get lost along the way, it is a shame. Thankfully, there are families who keep journals and such, so some of it does survive.

  11. We like your haiku very much. Nice to learn of your family's history. Mom has a bit of English and Scottish mixed in with her Irish heritage. She wishes she had paid more attention to her grandparents when they told tales of their background.

We hope the tests go well for Brian. We send soft woos and gentle hugs to Jacqueilin on the loss of Halle.

We are hoping that you and your family were unharmed by the severe storms yesterday.

  15. Terrific post Ann. And I LOVE the September header! It is terrific! Love your poem and your heritage!
I was lucky to work in the Scottish House in Banff one summer. I learned more about clans and clan history. We had a "Hall of Tartan". It was fun. I met Scottish expats from all over the world! My first husband's parents were both of Scottish heritage and Scottish country dancing, Céilís, and the Scottish games have been a great part of my life. We all have kilts around this house!
Thanks for telling us about Jackie.

My heart aches for Ms. Jacqueline, may she find comfort in beautiful memories.

  19. What a cute and poignant poem! I had thought about researching the tartan plaid but just didn't have time - it does look like the one the unfortunate gentleman experiencing the breeze has on! Thanks for being a poetry partner with us on Thursdays!
