THE BRIDGE
by Shel Silverstein
This bridge will only take you halfway there
To those mysterious lands you long to see:
Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs
And moonlit woods where unicorns run free.
So come and walk awhile with me and share
The twisting trails and wondrous worlds I've known.
But this bridge will only take you halfway there ~
The last few steps you'll have to take alone.

So come and walk with me awhile. They do not walk with us long enough,
it is never long enough. Never long enough to share our world, to share all we
want to give them ~ to receive all they so unconditionally give to us.
And though we are by their side,
they take their final steps alone.
May they be peaceful steps.
Lightning, our beautiful Sibe Boy, rest well forever.
Thank you for your post, Ann. I am in tears once again with very little sleep but your post means the world to me. My heart aches for Kathie♥
ReplyDeleteDearest Ann,
ReplyDeleteThey do not walk with us long enough—so true!
Our kitty nurses are clinging close to Pieter as he is fading out of life. Did call our doctor and he will call hospice by 8:30 AM. Sleeping is for me near impossible, maybe some 4 hours but one day I'll catch up!
Big hugs and I know you understand...

Thank you, Ann for these beautiful memory pics and the poem is so true. Both of these precious pups will be missed forever
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to two of our best loved Blogville friends. We will never forget them and we hope their families feel our love for them during this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteNever long enough.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Our friends do not stay with us long enough, but long enough to have us remember them forever in
ReplyDeleteour hearts.

A beautiful post for departed friends. A lovely poem too. I only discovered Shel Silverstein through you.
ReplyDeleteOh, Ann, you are so thoughtful and kind to do this. We loved Molly too and we are happy that she and Lightning can both be together with all the other Angels free of pain and free to run and delight in their new life. Thank you for this. It made us cry again, but one day the tears will be happier ones than right now.

So, so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo much sadness lately. XO
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful tribute to those two beautiful souls.
ReplyDeleteJust too many heartbreaking losses lately. This month is bringing back so many of my own memories of my furbabies no longer with us physically but always here in our hearts.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a special poem, and a beautiful tribute to Lightning and Molly.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to all who knew and loved them.
ReplyDeleteLulu: "It's been a sad several weeks for the animal blogs, that's for sure and certain."
