PHOTO HUNT: JIGGLY

The ZH and I were talking recently about "how things used to be", which I, of course, do not remember. She said her TV when she was growing up was very tiny and it had only a black and white picture. Can you imagine? Sometimes when the picture was fuzzy and blurry and JIGGLY (which was actually most of the time) it almost looked like it was a color picture. The TVs had "rabbit ears" on top, some wrapped with tin foil. I'm sure if they'd had "cats ears" the TV would have worked much better, but then I wouldn't want any tin foil on my ears. And can you believe this: they only had 3 channels and those went off the air at midnight. And worst of all, you had to actually get up from whatever comfy spot you might be in to change the channels!!! I wonder why humans even bothered to watch TV way way back then. We cats wouldn't be that foolish!

  1. I love your take on the theme! An in the early 70s here in England we had a black and white tv and three channels and no remote control

Now we have HD digital colour and 150 channels... And a nice remote control. The odd this is that there is usually nothing to watch... sighs!

    Happy weekend

  2. Mom said she recalls those jiggly TVs too ~ wiv the rabbit ear aerials on top. Does that mean she's old?

  5. MOL!!! Our mom doesn't really remember those tvs, but she DOES remember, there weren't remotes and the channels were only, 2,4,5,7,9,11,13. NOW, we have over 800+ channels! We agree, we'd they bother???

  8. Yes, I remember those days, too, Zoey! It's hard to believe in this day and age -- technology has advanced so far. But jiggyly TV -- yup! And we thought it was wonderful at the time!

  9. We had those, too! Only we had 4 channels, and besides the rabbit ears, if you moved one way or the other, the picture went even more jiggly!

    Love this!

  11. Mom says she remembers that well too, and she also remembers how the TV always went all fuzzy and jiggly at the best part of whatever show was on.

    Thanks for the memory:)

  12. Our mum remembers those TVs too when she was growing up,but theirs only had one channel. She said people used to rent them instead of buying them too. When her and dad got married they rented a colour TV and everyone came to look at it because most people still had black and white.

  16. Our one local station didn't come on until 5:30 pm everyday, but my Mom and I, in great excitement with a new TV, would turn it on earlier and watch the test pattern just to make sure it was coming.

Who remembers Playhouse 90? I used to live for that one!

  17. Well our Mom is so old, that she remembers the first TV. There were hardly any programs at all and most of the time it was just a test pattern. And it was very tiny. And we did have to get up and change the channel.Have a great week end.

  18. My mom remembers those days! She says having to get up to change the channels is one reason they tended to watch just one channel.

  23. Better rabbit ears than cat ears - we cats need our ears! But I want to know what they did with the rest of the rabbit - did the cats get to have it for dinner?

  29. It took us all day but we finally got mom to admit that she remembers TV being like that too...and remembering the stations signing off at night!

  30. We're with you. Whyever did they bother to watch that?

Course Jan only gets one major station now, plus one oldies, plus PBS -- if she's lucky and they hold. So, we can't watch much tv since it went digital.
