A Cat Conversation About The Letter "C"

Dear Furriends,
School is back in session now.  Maggy is in kittergarten, though being the smarty cat that she is, she's in the gifted and talented section.  Zoey is in Pre-K and doing well.  Both having been working hard on learning and improving their English language skills.  I recently overheard them having a conversation about the letter "C".
"Maggy, I can give you some words that start with "C"!  There's Cat, and Cute, and Curious.  All those letters describe me pretty well."
"Yes, Zoey, they do describe you and they are good words.  Here are more words that begin with the letter "C" and these words describe so many of our furriends.  Concerned and Caring and Compassionate."
"Wow, Maggy, those are big and important words."
"Well, Zoey, you see this is kind of a big and important time in the life of Zoolatry."
At that point, I joined the conversation.  It was time to have a little chat with both of the girls.  To let them know about some things going on and what they can do to help.
"Maggy, Zoey ~ listen to me, please.  Yes, you are both cute and curious cats.  And yes, our furriends have been so very caring and concerned.  We've received so, so many wonderful and thoughtful comments and emails from these furriends.  Right now I want to tell you about a few more "C" words.
The first is Cancer.  It's a big word, and it's a bad word.  And the next is Chemotherapy.  And that's an even bigger word, and it's a bad word, too ~ but it might in time, be a good word for us. The Zoolatry Poppy has Cancer.  We thought it was all gone a couple years ago.  But now it has come back, and we are very worried and sad, because we all love him very much.
"The chemotherapy might make Poppy feel really sick a lot of the time.  And it might make him look a little different, or act a little different.  But he'll still be "our Poppy" no matter what changes may happen.  And many, many months from now, maybe, if we are blessed and have good luck smile on us, the chemotherapy will turn out to be a good thing, because it will help him get rid of his cancer.
"So, what I want you both to do is to care for Poppy is whatever way you can. You can cuddle him, you can purr to him.  You can rest beside him.  You can meow softly and let him know you love him. After all, healing is not just in the body but it is also in the mind, in the heart and in the spirit.  And you can ease his mind, warm his heart and lift his spirits. Together, with hope and with love, we'll travel down this road and at the end of this journey ~ we will win.  We will."

To you, from me.  Thank you for being our friends.  I truly appreciate and am so very thankful for your Purrs for our Poppy, they mean a great deal to us.  Whether your purrs take the form of prayer, or good wishes or healing light, I believe the power of one can become the power of many.  I've been blogging for almost five-years now, and have met amazing and wonderful people, shared good times along with not so good times.  I hope to continue here at Zoolatry, as often as I can over the months ahead.  It is a good place for me and brings a bit of fun to each day ~ and if I can bring a smile to your face, well ~ that makes me feel good!  You make me feel good.  Thank you.  And a P.S. to our Poppy ~ if you are reading this, you're the best thing that ever happened to me ... I love you!
The ZH,  Zoolatry Human ~ Ann

"Hey Mom!"  "Yes, Zoey, what is it now, I thought we were finished with our post for today."  "But Mom, I just thought of some more "C" words... Candy and Cookies and Crunchies... let's go have some cause treats always make us feel better."

So kitties, give that Poppy lots of purrs and we are sending our purrs too. Take care.

  31. All of us here are very sad to hear that your poppy has to go through all this. Our Anne will start her second round of chemo (now that her surgery has been deemed a success) in a few weeks. =( None of us looks forward to this - not us, not her husband, not her children, and certainly not her - but we all do look forward to success as a result of this ... for both your poppy and for our Anne.

Our prayers and purrs are with you, Zoolatry's Poppy. Every. Single. Day.

So, being one of the recipients of your care and compassion, it comes natural to feel for you and your beloved Poppy through these challenging months.
