FRACTIOUS [VBP] FRIDAY ... and a GNASHING [VBP] OF THE TOOF ... and WE'VE BEEN "ZOOGLED"

But why so displeased, Zoey?    Well, here's the low-down ... The ZH (that's Zoolatry Human, my hu-mom Ann for those new to us) first started posting to Zoolatry in summer, 2007.  She also started doing photoart images for our bloggers friends about the same time.  So ~ as you can surmise, she has built up a fairly big email list of our blog friends over all those years, it numbers somewhere over 350 of you now.

Once in awhile, she'd send out a mass-email (or we call it an email-blast) to let friends know about something on Zoolatry, or maybe on the Cat Blogosphere, or to share news of friends in need, and friends loved and lost who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Then a time came when we were asked to share some news by another blogger, and we gladly did so. Now it seems that a lot of  friends contact us asking us to "spread the word" about news and special events and contests and more!  And we are pleased to do so!  (BTW: we always send blind copies as we do not believe it is right to share email addresses without permission.)
But yesterday!  Well ...we got  ZOOGLED!
It's just preposterous.  We think google head-butted us ... I'm gonna say they "ZOOGLED" us!  We wanted to let you know about the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop, so we did an email-blast ... and what happened?  Google shut down our email!  ZOOGLED!  They said "you've sent out too many emails" (huh?) and exceeded your quota (huh?) and you can't email for at least 24-hours (huh?).

So . . . what now?  The ZH says she's been told to set up these time-consuming and cumbersome "groups", which means inviting each of you to be part of it, on an individual basis, one by one ... waiting to hear back, then adding you to the group.  Unless someone out there knows a better way to manage a large email list (and if you do, please let us know!)

What we prefer to do is to "ask" ... if you want to be on our email-list to get news and information about the pet blogging world ... please email us and let us know.  In a week or two, we'll clean up the list, and delete those we don't hear from.  The "ZOOGLING" message claimed (huh?) most of what we send out is spam anyway  and goes right into all your spam-buckets (huh?).

So ... help Zoey so she can stop "gnashing her toof" and help the ZH by emailing us your preference ... and thanks so much.  Oh, and if anyone wonders where Maggy stands on this issue ~ well, she's not standing, as usual she's curled up and napping through it all.  Paws up!  Just write to zoolatry at gmail dot com.

PS: lots of Zoey's "words" fit well with VBP this week ... click here for de-tales

  1. Hrumpfff. Your emails always get to our inbox and we appreciate the emails very much. We'll have Mommy send ZH an email because we don't want to be left off the email list!

  2. Ladies, please look into MailChimp! A little more complicated than sending an e-mail, you enter all your e-mail addresses into a database, choose one of their templates, set it up--and MailChimp sends it on your behalf rather than having your good e-mail name sullied by Google's rules. Comcast did that to me years ago, so I looked into e-newsletters using a service. MailChimp is free, and very easy to use. You can ask me or any number of others who read your site for assistance if you need it--many of us use it already. http://mailchimp.com/ P.S. I hate anything Google.

  5. Hi Zoey, Ann, and Maggy! I'm glad I saw this. I just asked one of my computer-geek friends, and he said that mailchimp.com will allow you to set up a large e-mail list (under 2,000 contacts are free). The service is free and it should be better than gmail for managing such a big list. I hope this helps. I have never used it, so I don't know too much about it. I thought it was worth mentioning, though. :)

I'll e-mail you in just a sec to tell you we want to stay on the list :)

  6. Oh my goodness! This is just outrageous!! After all...what you are doing is spreading GOOD words and trying to HELP people!! We think this is just terrible. Sorry we don't know of a way to send out mass emails, but I can tell you that we usually get two of each one you send...I'll send you an email to clear it up!! We feel terrible that this happened to you. Thanks for all you do Ann!!

  8. Your emails are important. That's for sure..... Well, about your question. HH uses Your Mailing List Povider (ymlp.com) for her art and book emails to her readers. The trouble is that costs money. And I know others use Mail Chimp... but I think that would cost money too is you go beyond a certain number of mailings per month. We would chip in, but we would need others to as well if you decide to go that route.

  25. Maybe if you only did one email per day that would help...

We know that WE still would like to be on your list... It is Wonderful to have the news... We will send you an email...

  26. Gasp! That Google is getting too big for it's britches M thinks. Your emails are most welcome here - we'll send you an email to that end. Sadly email addresses do change, so I suppose a few of your mailings do end up in Trash or spam since no one bothered to tell you the address changed. i can see this is creating a whole bunch of extra work for your mom! But once you have eliminated some addresses, things should go smoothly. How very frustrating. I'm nashing my teeth too for you (oh, wait a minute, I don't has any teeth - it's my gums that are nashing!) You are very valued in our house.

  29. So sorry this happened to you. Not only do we appreciate the mailings you send us about others, you have been a great friend by sending out news of our interviews. Both types of mailings are so appreciated.

We all need to check our email provider spam boxes occasionally because whatever service we use, mail from friends can end up in them.

Thank you for all you do.

  30. Have emailed you! Your emails do not end up in spam!!! Google are just flexing their claws cos they can!!!

  35. What several readers have said about Mailchimp. I use it for my newsletter list and it is awesome! It is free as long as you have less than 2,000 subscribers on your list and you can send out a total of 12,000 emails each month. When I first signed up a few years ago, I was able to manually add the subscribers from my old list since they had already opted in - not sure if that is still true now.

Oh, and do count me in, whatever you decide to do!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Spam? No! Not spam!!! Sheesh! Actually, we've never seen your emails in our spam box. Thankfully!
We want to stay on and already emailed you about it!
We love your emails, just to set the record straight, and think it's awesome that you get the word out on lots of good stuff!

  39. We are very appreciative of the email your mom sends us sweet Zoey. It is usually right in our inbox. We just sent her an email so she will keep us on the list. A big thank you to you, Maggy and your mom for all you do. Hugs and nose kisses

  42. Googool is getting more and more annoying. They seem to have decided that their company would work better without any users.

You might want to check out BraveNet if MailChimp doesn't work out. A lot of what BraveNet offers is borderline spammer support, but we use it some for things like polls and page counters.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow! We've never heard of such a thing! We think Mom Paula sent a response back to you to keep us on your list!

    ReplyDelete
  44. That is preposterous! Hope you get it straightened out. A kitty posse needs to be sent to Google to scratch out the eyes of those making such dumb decisions. And please add our mom to the e-mail list: janet.blue@thecatonmyhead.com. She will send you an e-mail to the address you posted. 45. Does google claims that your mails is spam *PFFT*
That was the worst thing I ever heard !!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hmmmm I guess it is a precaution from Google... there are so many spammers. But it is strange that they would claim the messages go directly into spam!
Ah! Maybe with the cleaned up list...
    Lots of purrs
