MEMORIES of MY MAGGY

We've regularly posted "Maggy Monday" photos, but from now on, we'll be posting under the title of "Memories of My Maggy".  But before you think the worst, Maggy has not crossed the bridge ~ not at all.

Though I must report, with some sadness in my heart, that she did not travel to Maryland with me last month, and remains in Florida.  Before I go further though, let me say, it was not a decision easily made ~ but a decision made of necessity.  I miss her terribly, but I knew then, and I know now, that it was the best thing to do (especially for her) and the right thing to do.

She is in a lovely home, with someone who truly loves her very much and treats her like a queen!  There are other kitties and surprisingly to us both, though Maggy and Zoey did not get on well ~ Maggy and her "new house mates" get on very well.  She still can enjoy the Florida sunshine, and warm breezes on another porch, not unlike the one she enjoyed so much at our former home.  She can still chase gecko's and lizards and find endless sunpuddles just as she used to ... her days and nights are much the same as they had been for the many years we shared together.  In truth, though I miss her ~ I don't think she misses me all that much ~ and my heart tells me that is a good thing.  I  am forever grateful to the wonderful and loving friend who so willing took her into her heart and her home.

I have many photos of this beautiful girl, never posted, so will still post my memories of her from time to time, and perhaps even some of the new photos I receive of her as she enjoys her new home!

Above, a favorite all time photo ~ as she is held in the loving hands of Poppy Vic.

  1. I must admit, I shouted out "NO!!" as I read the first sentence. I was so relived as I read on.
I'm sorry you had to leave Maggy behind but so glad she is happy at her new home...

  2. What a wonderful post and a wonderful and selfless thing you did by letting Maggy stay in Florida. HH says she is going to write you soon... she's been meaning to... but just hasn't gotten around to it.

Have a great day... Love, love the picture of Maggy.

  3. It must have been hard to part, but so reassuring that she is happy in her new home. Moving cats long distance is really hard on them, so we understand your decision. We will enjoy your Monday postings! We wonder if Zoey also stayed in Florida with somebody else, or if she is with you.

  4. Oh Ann I'm SO glad it was not the Bridge you were writing about! What a lovely girl & even if it was the right thing to do, a piece of your heart will always lie between Maggy's paws. While we are glad for her, our hearts ache for you .... I know how difficult that must have been for you ...

  6. A lovely picture of Maggy being held by Poppy Vic and what a lovely memory to have of them together. We know you will miss her very much but it sounds as though she is settled with her new family in their Florida home and is happy.

  7. Bless you for doing what is best for Maggy. It must have been a very difficult decision, but if Maggy is happy and doing well, that's the important thing. My heart breaks for you, however. It's so hard to part with a furbaby that you deeply love. M is sending you a big HUG.

  9. Ditto The Furries, Ann. Whew!

I can well imagine the difficult decision, but am glad you put her needs ahead of yours. It's my understanding that cats (generally) are tied to their home/territory, not to the humans who care for them. So I certainly do believe you when you write that you don't think she misses you all that much. Though *your* heart aches!

Purrs from the boys and a hug from me.

  11. I know how much you love Maggy and always will ~ and I know in my hearts that you made this choice for her happiness, regardless of the pain it would cause you.
Sometimes things are not how we would choose them to be ~ but they are the best they can be.
Many years ago I had to make a similar heartbreaking choice. I had to let a beloved cat, whom I adored, be re-homed. It was in the days before anyone had even conceived of the idea of indoor cats ~ and my beautiful boy Merak was hit by a car ~ and although he made a full recovery he was much slower and more at risk from another accident as he grew older. A dear friend came to the rescue (Merak already knew her from visits) ~ she lived in the countryside and she offered to care for him for the rest of his days. It broke my heart to let him go, but like you, I made the decision that was best for Merak. He lived to be a ripe old age in her care. I never stopped missing him.
Sometimes we have to do what we have to do.
Bless you Ann. You have lost so very much in recent years ~ may your life settle down and may contentment and happiness accompany the changes.

Love Jan. (with purrs from Milo and Alfie) xxx

  16. So very sorry that Maggy wasn't able to make the move with you but very happy that she is happy in her new home. Sometimes in life we are forced to make some very uncomfortable decisions and this sounds like one of those for you.

Hoping that Maryland is all you had hoped it would be for your family.

  20. We're so relieved that Maggy is okay. We also got scared when we read that first line.

Our Mom is such a loser....she had hoped to have lunch with you one more time before the move. We're glad you're getting settled.

  21. I know it was heart breaking to realize you could only move one kitty...I am sure your new home would not accommodate both girls...life indeed does happen and not always as we wish and I know you made sure Maggie would be happy and have the love you have given her. Be well in your new home Miss Ann

  22. We admit that we knew about Maggy, but reading about it was still hard. We know that you loved Maggy and she will always be in your heart and that love is what allowed you to do what was best for her. How wonderful she is living in a place where she is feeling at home and getting along with the other kitties. Our thoughts and purrs are with you as you move forward to make new memories with Zoey.

I knew something was up. Maggy was absent in the new posts and header so I feared the worst. Though she is not with you, I am so happy that you had a trusted friend who could offer her what she needed. It takes a lot of courage, selflessness and an abundance of understanding and love to let go when you know it's best for your loved one. I am glad she is happy in her new home.
It's been a tough couple of years, lots of changes, lots of letting go. My heart goes out to you. My wish for you is that this opens your path to new blessings and happiness

  24. We are so happy that Maggy is adjusting well to her new housemates and her new guardian. We're sending lots of love to you, Ann, for your decision couldn't have been easy.

  25. Oh goodness! We are so glad that Maggie is in a home with kitties that she gets along with! We are very sad that she didn't make the travel to Maryland with you and Zoey. But it is for the best that she is in a loving home with friendly kitties, and is in the land of sunshine and geckos and lizards.

  27. I know you made the choice because you love Maggy so much and knew deep down it was the right choice. Your beloved girl is happy and is loved and that is all you could have wished for. Please take comfort from that and cherish the memories you have. Especially cherished memories like todays photo. Precious indeed. Sending you much love and many hugs. Carol and GJ xx

  32. When I saw of picture of you with Zoey on your trip north on FB, I asked where is Maggy and someone commented, She's in the car! I didn't believe it then because she would have been with you, but reading this was still a shock. It never occurred to me she'd stay behind. That had to be so very hard! I'm sorry, as I know she was a big part of your life.
