A PAUSE IN OUR RETROSPECTIVE ~ The Yearling

We pause our June Retrospective to share a bit of the joy and beauty of Mother Nature ~ on May 21 we posted an image of a sweet baby bunny in the front yard, who is still with us and thriving (though admittedly having breakfast, lunch and dinner from the flowers planted in my front garden!).

On June 8 ~ Mother Nature visited us once again!
Although we are city dwellers, deer frequent our yard and on this day we discovered a yearling tucked into the shrubbery along the side fence line.  We presumed Mom was nearby, likely have given birth in our yard and so spoke with a deer rescue organization in northern Virginia. The little fawn was visually checked to ensure she was healthy.  Then, she was just left alone (hard to do!).  The following morning she was gone, and we suspected Mom had moved her into safer refuge near the back fence, where shrubs and bramble are thick and dense.  She was far to small to jump any of the fences, and the only other route out would be by way of the front yard and the street.  So we imagined they would stay sheltered with us until the little one had grown much bigger.  Early yesterday morning, Mom and Fawn came out to enjoy the early morning sun, the dew upon the grass ~ perhaps to catch a few bugs (do they eat bugs), much on some greenery?  So, not quite a week has gone by, happily they are still with us, safe, protected.  Mom returned to the cover of the shrubs, Fawn moved about and took rest by this big old tree.  My hands shook as I tried to photograph her and did not want to move to close, so excuse the distant and blurry images.  Our little yearling, precious!
