COME FLY WITH ME! Let's catch a rainbow!

Where are we?  We're at the Udvar-Hazy Space Center, in Chantilly, VA.  It's near Dulles Airport, and it's part of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum and what an exciting place it is.  We invited SAMMY here today, not only to see some amazing "flying machines" but also to take a ride in the "world's smallest airplane".   It's called Sky Baby and it's really an experimental plane, but we've renamed it the SAMMY EXPRESS and we even got a special tail-number just for Sam, OSC-101!

Now we know Sammy doesn't live all that far away from the nation's capital (and neither do we), but he might never have seen it from the air (and lots of it's air space is restricted ... and the rest is a lot of hot air from what goes on down below, that's a joke folks!) ... anyway ... Dougie Dog, serving as Homeland Security Chief and SSA during the recent campaign (which we prefer not to discuss further) still has some political capital built up and so he's used it to get permission for Zoey to take Sammy on a special flight over Washington, DC.

As soon as the museum closes this afternoon, Dougie will load up the cooler with a lotta bacon, and off they'll go (all the Dulles runways will be cleared for them) ... over the Virginia countryside, towards Great Falls and down the Potomac River.  Flying above historic Georgetown and the Kennedy Center with a glance over toward the National Cathedral ... and looking the opposite way at the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial, the National Mall.  And of course, the Washington Monument ... and the White House.  (Hi Barack, Hi Michelle ... gonna miss you guys!) ... Look that way, there's Rock Creek Park and the National Zoo.  Do we dare talk about Capitol Hill ... sigh.

SAMMY is going to love it all ... and yes, ZOEY does have a pilots license, not to worry.

And now we'll do a loop-da-loop ... oh, Sammy, look at those beautiful clouds up above!  You know it was raining this morning ... I wasn't sure we'd be able to fly.  But then it cleared up ... and look, look SAMMY ... look at that beautiful rainbow ...  Sam ... Sammy, can you hear me?

 A Poem about Sammy
Now I lay me down to sleep,
angels near to guide my feet.

I'm not afraid, I do not fear,
my life's been good while I was here.
It is time to leave, to cross my bridge,
to reach toward my rainbow ...

When I come to heaven's door,
I'll see the friends smiling who went before.
Waiting to welcome me home again.
Where I began, where I now end.

So I will now leave, I will cross my bridge,
yes ~ I see my rainbow ...

  11. A bittersweet day for our dear friend Sammy. How wonderful that he was able to have so many adventures all over the world before he hopped on that beautiful rainbow. We bet there was a very warm welcoming committee at the bridge for dear sweet Sammy.
