WALK WITH ME ~

WALK WITH ME
~  a new feature here, I invite you to share the beauty of my city, Baltimore.  Often depicted in movies and on television showing a less desirable side, it is also known as "Charm City" and in more ways than one, lives up to that name.  My home is in the cultural/historic district, so wonderful for walking.  Where centuries old buildings stand amidst gleaming skyscrapers, an eclectic mix, quiet yet with the colorful bright lights of the city at night and bustling, busy city streets by day.

Our first walk takes us only one street over, to Cathedral Street.  Here, The Baltimore Basilica, America's First Cathedral has made its home.  Dedicated in 1821 it celebrated it's 200th anniversary just this past May 31, 2021.  My photos show views from my apartment window and from the street. Below all images is a LINK for a virtual tour of this magnificent cathedral.  On the cathedral grounds is a favorite spot of mine, the Pope John Paul II Memorial Garden.  A small but peaceful spot to pause any day.  Dedicated in honor of his visit to Baltimore in 1995 it features a bronze sculpture by Joseph Sheppard surrounded by sheltering trees and flowers against a beautiful mural backdrop.  The entire garden is constructed in the shape of a fish, yellow and white flowers represent the papal flag and red and white blossoms represent Pope John Paul's homeland of Poland.  The flowering mural holds symbols of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

  1. What an awesome walking tour. Baltimore sure has some fabulous architecture. Dad says he was there once many moons ago, but didn't get to take in the beauty of the city. Thanks for sharing this.

  4. Thank you for the tour! We don't know anything about Baltimore; heck, the biped has only left Canada a few times in her life. That little park IS a lovely oasis, btw. Good for the soul, amidst the bustle of the city. ♥

  11. That was a fun tour! Back in the 80s and 90s our Dad and Mom use to spend every other weekend in Baltimore. It was only a 3 hour drive from where they lived in WV. They always stayed at the Hyatt on the harbor.

  12. Ann what a beautiful walk we had. We were in Baltimore many years ago ( I had a cousin who live in Olney). Love the water front. Now I have a question the lady who cuts our hair is from Maryland, near Waldorf. She pronounces Baltimore quite strangely. We say Bal-ti-more I can't quite bread down how she pronounces it but just wondering what locals say.
