CATURDAY ART and SATURDAY'S CRITTERS

For our post today, we chose a photo that we already liked.  A picture of June, taken in low light, a very simple picture.  My only goal was to dramatize it further.  To emphasize the dark and the light and the shadows within the image itself, keeping its original colors.  It is named "Night Light".  The original is below, followed by the reworked image, done in Adobe Creative Cloud.

Original Photo

The above original was slightly cropped and placed on a white background.

Adobe Creative Cloud has a tool called "satin" which has many choices for
shapes/angles/percentages and can be applied in black or a choice of colors.
Satin is a favorite of mine and one can play with it endlessly (which I did here)
until reaching the effect you want.  I was using black in Satin.

Next was the "dodge" tool, this tool has three choices for shadows, highlights
or midtones shaping your tool into whatever shape you want to "dodge".
As I'd already darkened the photo considerably with the "satin" tool, I now
wanted to go back and brighten and lighten June.  This was done by using
the "dodge" tool many times, both with shadows and highlights only after
creating a shape that just covered her body in the photograph.

The whole image was slightly sharpened.
Night Light text was added, with a shadow.

  5. Your edits that highlighted June really made her the star in the foreground. Beautiful edits! I miss my big girl camera—your helpful explanations of your process motivates me to get it out and dust it off.
June, you are a beautiful girl.
