What fun checking out the birds and what a great variety of birds! We've seen and heard the pileateds high up in the trees, but never on the ground feeding like that! 😎 Cool!
The birds are so beautiful and there was the year that we fed them and then we stopped. We can only imagine how much fun sitting outside and watching the birds is. What a great way to spend the day!
Cannot be a birder with just an iPhone, so I've discovered. We have large, heavy binoculars that were purchases decades ago, and I often forget to grab them when venturing out to the park. Maybe one day I'll grow up and get serious about it.
Mom would love to have multiple backyard feeders, but we are not always nice to birds and like to chase them away. Now those woodpeckers are very beautiful but they make a racket on our chimney, one in particular. Mom loves the American Finch.
Watching the birds is fascinating and you are very wise not to feed in the seasons where food is plentiful and they should be foraging for themselves. We do them no favors by making them dependent on us.
Beautiful pictures, especially the pileated woodpecker. They look prehistoric. And their song is unmistakable. We hear more bird than traffic & people. Perfect❣️
Oh, what a wonderful idea to enjoy some backyard birding together with your grandchild! 👦🐦🌿 Our little Jamie (currently 3½ years old) will surely love that too once he's a bit older – thank you for the inspiration! How great that the woodpeckers are now reaping the “fruits” of the old branch or tree – it's so good that you left it there, just like in natural forests where deadwood provides both shelter and food for many creatures. 🌳🪵❤️

Lovely bird shots! They made #1 a bit nostalgic. She used to love seeing the Northern Flicker and Blue Jays when she summered in Prince Edward Island. We don't have them in Europe.
Those woodpeckers are amazing, love those colors Visiting via image-in-ing. My entries this week #34 Hope you will join ES #WW https://esmesalon.com/tag/wordlesswednesday/ NOW OPEN

ReplyDeleteThat was a bunch of fun birds!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots. We feed birds in the winter, but only hummingbirds during the summer because bears will steal the food. XO
