Once upon a time I was wandering. Much later, I heard that I wandered in a state called Pennsylvania. I was hungry. I was too cold, or too hot, or wet. I was dirty. I had injuries and sores. I had no place to sleep or rest. Most of all I was lonely. I know how this came to be, I know what came before. But you do not speak "dog" and I do not speak "human", so that story cannot be shared. And any story my humans today might share would only be from their imaginings.
When I wandered, I did find a friend, I'll call him Buddy, we hung a bit together, and we were buddies, though now I do not know what became of him. One day a lady drove down the old dirt road into the dump where Buddy and I hung out, she was a photo-journalist and she snapped the pictures above. I'm not sure why, but she "invited" me to come with her and I willingly went ... Buddy was scared I guess and ran off. The lady took me to a shelter and when she was back in her office she told a co-worker about me. "I found this lab," she said, "he seemed sweet, and I took him to the shelter."
The co-worker was a big lab-lover, but was upset because he knew this was a kill shelter, so he hurried there to free me and he took me to a better shelter ... a safe place. There they tended to my wounds, they cleaned me and fed me and I heard them tell the man they would try to find me a home! A home! Oh, how I wanted to have a home! But it was not to be ...
In time, the man himself came back to get me and he traveled with me to Washington, DC and brought me to his family home. I was there for awhile ... it was a little crowded there as this family had several labs and several kitty cats, and they were away a lot with business things. But it was nice, and I was happy.
Then a day came when they took me to visit another family. We went to a dog park and I met this family. They had no other pets, but they really really wanted to have one ... and it seemed they really, really wanted me. Me!
And so it came to be. A few days later ... me, and my toys and bowls, and my collar and leash got in the car again and off we went to Maryland. To what has become my Forever Home! I have a Mom and a Dad ... and I have a Best Boy ... and I even have a Grandma (who does this blog for me). I've been here for a few years now. I am not cold or dirty, I am not hungry. I am never lonely ~ I am loved. I have been rescued.
We are also joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop today, sponsored by BRIAN'S HOME ... as we are so very thankful that Dougie Dog was rescued by caring people and that he came into our lives.
