THANKFUL and THOROUGHLY POETIC THURSDAY

Another photo challenge from Angel Sammy and Teddy ~ it looked to us like one from the early 1950s, the kind of playground we ourselves may have gathered on with school friends.  Hopefully though not with so many on the big slide!

And as often happens, it reminded me of a photo of my own two grands from many years ago, a photo I had redone as "photo-art" ~ so we are showing both pictures today, and sharing a little poem for each.

CALL 911

Soon a four-kid pile up at the bottom of the slide.
Eight banged up knees.  Lots of bruised pride.
Somewhat like a game of pick-up-sticks
or a multi-car pile up on Route 66.

SIBLINGS

Hey, please go down, not up.
Go the right way!
But little brother follows big sister,
everywhere, every day!

Sam's Poetry Corner

We're thankful that our own kids 'n' grands have managed to "slide" through those youngest years without broken bones
yet know there have been times of banged up knees and bruised pride ~ but that's always a healthy learning experience.

  1. TWO wonderful poems and we love that you had a "personal" one to add to the one for Poetry Day.....love the Route 66 reference - we live within a few miles of Rt. 66 and it rings true with the pile up reference!

  2. Love the photos and your poems! Our rule was "one at a time going down". How I would love to join them!

  3. How playgrounds have changed! Mom talks about being on the playground which was on hard asphalt with metal/steel things for climbing and swings. It's no wonder so many kids fell and broke bones. Now playgrounds are practically built on pillows to keep kids safe...but Mom missed the kind she grew up with!

  5. What an adorable poem to go with the Grands photo. Why kids always liked walking up was a puzzle but they all did.

  7. What a grand Poem! I have to agree with others in that Dad says he is reminded of great and fun times at the slide and on the swings when he was little. Purrs friends

  8. We had a park down the street where I grew up in the 60s and 70s. It had a big slide, monkey bars, swings, and even a water fountain. We played all day there. If you got a skinned knee, big deal. Just run home, put a band aid on it, and come back to play some more!

  12. Those slides were trouble, but for some reason we didn't seem to mind back then.

In our house, it was little sister followed big brother everywhere, and wanted to climb everything he climbed. The only reason she never climbed out of the crib is that she never saw him do it.

  15. two super poems, and we do love the family shot. Mom didn't like the ladder steps when it was so crowded because it was too easy to get a foot in the mouth.

  17. Your poems are wonderful. I too remember slides like that from back in the day...such fun, but great cause for lawsuits in these days...sigh...

I also remember our sons trying to go *up* the slide more than once...LOL!
