RETROSPECTIVE ~ DECEMBER 31, 2022

A retrospective of Zoolatry 2022.
Our headers change month to month, and sometimes within the month,
mostly because we so enjoy playing with photo art.
Favorite posts from each month.
Below ~ our year round footer, and holiday season footer.

My thanks to one and all who take time from busy lives and busy days to visit here, to add a comment ~ it means a great deal to me, and I am glad to have you in my life.

Blogging has been more than photos, art and words out there on a page in the internet ~ through this blog I have found real friendships, often harder to do when one is in those golden years.  I've had the privilege and joy to meet many of you in person.

Others we have shared long phone conversations, getting to know one another.  And then there is the sharing of our stories by email.  Though we may never be able to meet, to share a warm hug, it matters not that much, because a bond has been formed and it is a good one for me and I hope for you as well.

I feel blessed by you for you have made my life better, fuller, more complete.
Let's raise a paw to 2023 with the hope that it will be better for one and all.
Happy New Year!

JULY 8, 2011 ~ A SPECIAL FLASHBACK

July 8, 2011 marked the final shuttle launch of the U.S. Space Mission Program.
Shuttle Atlantis lifted off at 11:26 a.m., ET. on a hazy morning, barely to be seen over the
Indian River, certainly heard, as my husband Vic and I shared this occasion with our then toddler grandson.
The end of an era.

During our nearly 20-years of living on The Space Coast, we've had the amazing experience of viewing dozens of shuttle launches up close and personal.  For us, this was not a once-in-a-lifetime event, but a thrill lived many times over, and often shared with family and friends.  We've viewed launches from the VIP site on the Banana River, from the press viewing stands at KSC, from the beach, from the riverfronts and from our own front yard.  If one is honored to be at the VIP site, as we were on many occasions, you travel by NASA bus to the site, several hours prior to launch.  We have waited there in the cold chill of a January night.  We have waited there in the hot and humid July mid-day sun.  You watch the countdown clock.  There is always a hold at 9:00 minutes and counting.  Are all systems go?  The countdown clock begins again.  At 3:00 minutes and counting, you'll hear the voices from Mission Control: Go, Go, Go.  Your heart beats fast.  You want to hear only "go", you never want to hear the word "scrub".  Because all it takes is one "scrub" and back to the bus, to return yet another night or day.  But return you do, always. For whether it is a nighttime launch, or day ~ whether against the rising sun over the ocean, or against the reflection of a setting sun from the west, each and every launch is spectacular.  The engines fire.  The smoke rises.  The earth shakes beneath your feet.  You cover your ears against the sound blasts.  Then, lift off.  The smoke plume curls up through the sky.  Farther and farther it travels, faster and faster it goes.  You watch for the separation of the rocket boosters, which fall away and land in the ocean.  Safe.  Another safe launch.  An awesome spectacle, an amazing feat by humankind.   We have cheered with a large crowd of young Japanese women when the first female astronaut from Japan rode off into space.  On one bus ride back to the center (at 4:00 am, no less), we shared passing bottles of vodka from Russian visitors who had just viewed the first shuttle launch of a Russian cosmonaut joining with our astronauts.  We have met people from all over the world, as they come from far and near to experience this.  Some had a personal interest in special payloads that were on board the shuttles.  I remember two in particular: a young man, a musician, had designed and created a very special guitar -- it would travel on board the shuttle that day, to be played by an astronaut once in space.  Could we, as humans, make music in zero gravity?  If in future times we were to live in outer space, we would want to have music as part of our lives -- would it be?  Could it be?  Sadly, I never learned the results of that experiment.  Another I recall, was an elementary school teacher from Alabama. Her class one year mailed a Teddy Bear to another class of students in another part of the world.  They in turn mailed Teddy on... and on... and on.  For many years, through many classes of students, Teddy had traveled the world.  Yes, the same Teddy... greeting hundreds and hundreds of students over the years.  Now this teacher was retiring, and today Teddy would travel out-of-this-world.  His final journey, likely watched and cheered on by thousands of students worldwide who remembered Teddy.  Being a part of this over many years has been rewarding.  Our space program has brought so much to our everyday lives in the fields of medicine, and technology, and food production, and automotive safety.  Many payloads were scientific experiments, many were just to learn "can we make music" or let's honor Teddy.  But the list of developments that improve much that we come in contact with each day is endless, and yet few are even aware that all these advancements are a direct result of space exploration and the shuttle program.  What President Kennedy envisioned many decades ago, came to pass.  Now the shuttle program is winding down. It is a sad time for those of us who have watched and been inspired by the years of achievement. It is a sad time for the thousands who were part of the NASA, KSC and the contractor workforce as they face an uncertain future. It is a sad time as we pause and remember Challenger and Columbia and the brave souls lost on those flights.
To all those who have been a part of space history, we thank you.
Atlantis and her crew, Godspeed.

On Monday, August 29, from Pad 39B, where shuttles once launched, ARTEMIS, unmanned this time, and weather permitting will blast off on a journey to and around the moon.  Toward a future which will once again bring astronauts to the moon and to Mars and beyond.
ARTEMIS, twin of Apollo, is the largest and most powerful rocket ever built.

A SEUSS RETROSPECTIVE [2012] for THANKFUL THURSDAY

We're remembering 2012 and what a fun day it was when we celebrated Dr Seuss!
We're thankful for the many pet blogging friends who allowed us to "compose silly poems" and
design their own "seuss books" that year ~ here, a retrospective.
Sadly, some of these furriends have since crossed their Rainbow Bridge ... while others
no longer are active bloggers, but we remember them all with fondness!

Ginger Jasper is now an angel cat ~ Harry Spotter, Mario and Bailey are not blogging at this time.

Cory Cat, Milo and Alfie are not active bloggers, tho their "hu-moms" are on Facebook!

There are some new "Woos" in the OP Pack, and some have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Hannah and Lucy are not blogging now, and wonderful Chey (Cheysuli) crossed her Bridge.
As mentioned above, Bailey is not blogging.
However, our friends Amber Da Weenie, Zoey (here at Zoolatry), the kitties of
Jacqueline's Cat House ... and of course, friend of all, Brian are still busy bloggers.
And today is, in fact, Brian's Thankful Thursday ... so with thanks to all who have
supported Dr Seuss Day in the past and all who will do so again tomorrow ...
LET'S BLOG HOP!

WACKY-WEIRD-WILD-WONDERFUL SEUSS WEDNESDAY RETROSPECTIVE

As part of our Dr Seuss "retrospective" here are images
from 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015!

That "grandboy" we often speak of, was a wee one taking part in our Seuss Day post six-years
ago ... and hard to believe, that in 2013 ... we actually furgot (what is an almost favorite day!)
to do a post, and posted late!
In 2014 we happened to still be "vacationing" and our post reflected that ... and was
shared by very good friends Hannah and Lucy (who no longer blog).

And in 2015 ...
Zoey, TK and Pip had to deal with a mystery for Seuss day ... one that
remains unsolved ...

I hope you can stop by tomorrow, Thursday,
when we'll be sharing lots of our pet blogging friends
who've been part of Dr Seuss Day fun!

SEUSS DAY ~ RETROSPECTIVE

Two "once upon a year" posts by ZOEY in celebration of Dr Seuss Day!

Zoey's Post for Dr Seuss, 2015

Our friend, Mario da Cat is not posting on his blog at this time ...
but way way back in 2012
we "shared" our Dr Seuss day post for some serious "toof talk"!

LAUNCHING INTO SPACE

At the end of our blogoversary month
we are remembering living on the Space Coast
with old posts and thoughts from those days.
And remembering the wonder of space shuttle launches.

Over our nearly 20-years of living on The Space Coast, we've had the amazing experience of viewing dozens of shuttle launches up close and personal. It is a sad time for those of us who have watched and been inspired by the years of achievement. It is a sad time for the thousands who were part of the NASA, KSC and the contractor workforce as soon they face an uncertain future. It is a sad time as we pause and remember Challenger and Columbia and the brave souls lost on those flights. To all those who have been a part of space history, we thank you.  Godspeed all.

FIGHTING CANCER ~ and ~ LIVING STRONG

Our month long retrospective in celebration of our eight years of blogging would not be complete without mention of a very special and personal event held in both 2010 and 2011.  So many bloggers came together during that time, under the guidance of Milo and Alfie, The Cat's Meow and their amazing and wonderful Mom, Jan ~ along with some help from the Zoolatry girls to create the special blog, We LiveStrong Today.  Bloggers posted their own thoughts, feelings and memories of loved ones, family, friends and beloved pets ~ some who had fought battles against cancer and won, others whose battles sadly had not been won.
For those of you who were not bloggers at the time, this blog is still active, and you are more than welcome to add your own personal posting anytime you would like to do so.  Simply email me for information on how to do so.  If you would just like to take the time to view this blog, and visit friends there, click here.
During those years, my own husband battled cancer.  His family fought alongside him.  In 2012 his fight came to an end.  Here, a few of our postings from We LiveStrong Today as published during those years.
Also the two badges shared at the time, which you are welcome to copy and post.

Today we are painting by numbers ~ remember those "kits", perhaps you
painted with them as a little child!  What fun they were.
Below, we sort of made our own ...

PHOTO HUNT: Lavendar
Here an older photograph of my granddaughter, as she rests after a day of sun and swim.
Pleasantly tired, the photo has been texturized and given an overall lavendar tint
which seems appropriate for the mood of the original image.

TWO TUESDAY CATS

When we lived in Florida, I actually had a room that was my office!
A place to work, think, play ...
Maggy and Zoey would spend time there with me.
Here, an old photo/post for our retrospective (from March 2013
when they both napped while I did computer art.
Note that delightful cat sketch on top of the bookshelves
(upper left corner) ... that's original artwork by our very own blog friend,
Lou Belcher of HH and the Boys,
you can see more of her whimsical art, just click here.

WORDY WEDNESDAY CHALLENGE ~ with 34 Furriends

That old Wordy Wednesday Challenge ... from 2009 and 2011,
for bloggers not around at the time,
we challenged YOU ... to give us one word that best described your pet.
We'd do our best to find a picture from your blog to
go with and create an image to go with that hopefully reflected your word!

It was challenging!  Some of you came up with really unusual words,
some "made up" words and some just couldn't stick with one word!

Finished pictures were emailed back to everyone taking part, and all posted on
the same day ~ I do not think all were ever posted here on Zoolatry, so we hope you
can enjoy scrolling through the whole collection today (and again tomorrow, when
we'll post the rest of them).

Some of these friends have crossed their Rainbow Bridges
now, some no longer blog, others have moved on to Facebook ... but we
sure enjoyed each and every one of them!
[please see note below the images]

If any bloggers now are interested in having Zoolatry do another
Wordy Wednesday Challenge, for 2015, please let us know either in
your comments or by email.  It could take a few months to complete, but
we're up for the challenge if you are!

And please come back tomorrow ~ there's about 30 or 35 more kitties and woofies
who took the challenge that we want to share with you.  Thanks!

CHALLENGED and POOPED

Tomorrow ~ and on Thursday too,
we're revisiting more Wordy Wednesday Challenge pictures!
There were a wholabunch of them done ~
from challenges in 2009 and 2011.

Maggy and Zoey got a little more ambitious with their
Photoshopping at the time, and lots more friends took part.
I don't think we ever posted all these on Zoolatry, at the time they were
meant to post on each pets own blog instead, not ours!

Here, Maggy and Zoey's "words" ~ please stop by the
next couple days to see all the others!

My name is MAGGY and I was CHALLENGED.
All in all, I helped the ZH make a bazillion-pictures over the last month.
And some of you really challenged us with your words.

We're still trying to figure out sweet dear Gemini and what "puffalo" means!
And then there's Boris, who "flumps".
And funny Kodiak, the "doofus".  I mean how does one picture all those words?
And DaisyMae Maus sent us to the dictionary to help figure out "obstreperous".

And yes, it was very challenging to show Adorable, and Cuddly and Lovable
(repeatedly) in different ways!  But at days end, we enjoyed it and hope you did too!

But Zoey gotted POOPED!
