JUNE 14, 2025: A COMMENT

Yes, we did.
And 36 years later, we are adding fuel by the hour.
Destroying everything, destroying the future, their future.
Letting it all burn.  Letting it all happen.
__________________________

Today, we honor and respect the United States Army, all who have
served and continue to serve as it celebrates its 250th anniversary.

Today, Flag Day.  Though as a nation, we have often fallen short of
the values, morals and high standards for which it stands,
we continue to place hand on heart for our flag.

Today, we stand up, though cannot stand personally with the tens of
thousands of our fellow citizens who will march in protest,
representing "NO KINGS", from East to West and North to South
against the injustice and immoral actions of the current administration,
in the White House, the Cabinet and in the halls of Congress.

Today.  Rain on the parade.

BECAUSE SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN

Sunday evening, March 23, at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, Conan O'Brien received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.  An annual ceremony honoring American humor first began in 1998 and has continued every year since, except during the pandemic years of 2020/21.

Here, sharing a direct quote from a story in this mornings Washington Post 3/24/2025, written by Travis M. Andrews, titled:
COMICS ROAST CONAN O'BRIEN, TORCH TRUMP AT KENNEDY CENTER'S TWAIN PRIZE

Twain was suspicious of "mindless American might," O'Brien said.
"He loved America but knew it was deeply flawed."
Quoting Twain, he said,
"Patriotism is supporting your country all of the time and
your government when it deserves it."

Posting and commenting politically.  It is often said that two things can be true at the same time.  I believe this absolutely applies to the statement above, and so rewriting for this time and place to say: "now, in this time and this place, we can be patriotic, we can and must support our country in every way possible ~ yet, not be supportive of the government we have, for it does not deserve our support."
Whatever "label" you choose: Democrat, Republican, Independent, Liberal, Conservative, Progressive, Moderate choose: Fight, not flight.  Every individual, every institution, everything that has made the "United" States united ~ united, strong, powerful, productive, and once a place of freedom for all ~ is being ripped apart every hour of every day.  Silence is not golden.

KAKISTOCRACY

My country tis of thee,
yesterday ~ I felt so ashamed of thee.

___________________________________

Three years ago this month, our country stood strong, together, in support of Ukraine against the aggression of Russia.  Yesterdays behavior, actions, and words by the two men elected to serve as President and Vice President of the United States of America brought shame, embarrassment, disgust and instilled deep fear among good and caring Americans.

Elected November 2024.  Sworn into office January 2025.  Awarded a "cabinet" of equally unqualified secretaries over the weeks since.  Appointing the unelected "X" man to do whatever chooses to do, whenever he wants, to whomever he wants.  This is kakistocracy (n): a government by the least suitable or least competent citizens of the state, the least qualified and the most unscrupulous.  Easy to check all those boxes.

Silence is not golden.  Not now.  Pay attention.  Every one of us has a voice.  Call, write your congressperson, your senator: local and federal.  Once, twice, again and again.  You may not yet have been personally impacted by what is taking place each and every day, but that day will come.  And in the "six degrees of separation" theory, there is someone, or more, in your circle who has been damaged already.

Remember This:

As of July 2023, the total voting age population in the US was: 262,083,034

Total number of voters for Trump, November 2024: 77,301,997

Approximate % of US citizens, over 18, who wanted Trump to be
President enough who voted for him:
29.5%

That means approximately 70% did not vote for him.

There was no landslide.  There is no mandate.  Unfortunately, way too many "sat out" this election, and we are all paying the price for that negligence.  Too many more were swayed by mis-and-disinformation.  There's no easy fix now, no turning back the clock.  And no rest for the weary.  And no turning out, turning off the of news and information either ~ as exhausting, upsetting, angering and depressing as it may be, it is vital and critical to stay tuned in, stay informed.  Each of us has a voice, albeit small, but together it becomes loud and louder.  And it will matter.

Those fighting in Ukraine should have all their tomorrows.

We fighting here in the USA should have all our tomorrows.
